Universal Update

Although there are still a few known issues, and none of the iPad-sized assets are final yet, all of the screens have been converted to take advantage of the 1024 x 768 pixel screen. (There are 49 iPad-specific .xib files, which specify layout.)

As I’d hoped, there don’t seem to be any problems with the 480 x 320 pixel version, so I can finally be confident that we can do a Universal version — one build that runs on either iPad or iPhone. Right now it’s about 242 MB (again, we don’t have final artwork so this could change before release).

Although the game art isn’t available at full-screen, we are taking advantage of the iPad screen to showcase that art by not covering it with text. In addition, scrolling choices is much less frequent. Advisors are always visible. And it’s now possible to read the manual from within an interactive scene (as per the screen shot above).

The Universal build has not been through any sort of QA, but I hope to start testing soon.

  1. Waaah! How awesome is that! Thanks guys! I am looking forward to a smoother experience. I've been thoroughly enjoying the blown-up pixelated version on my iPad for the last few months, the lack of a native UI has been a small price to pay for genius. I hope you guys will find the market for a DLC pack at some point down the line, I'd definitely pony up for some more goodness.

  4. So happy to see KoDP getting another life in iOS. I've been playing it relentlessly for the past couple weeks and remembering why I loved it all those years ago.

    I've also been missing our Anadikki adventures and hope everyone is well.

    When do we get another game set in Glorantha? The Uz? The Luners? So many possibilities.

  5. Mark, yes. The upgrade will make it Universal. (You won't be able to move saved games easily, however.)

    daskindt, I miss them too. Maybe when the iPad build is out. (Dan M was running a sporadic Uz game.)

    I'm still hoping you find time to make another game like KoDP, but with another Glorantha culture. Like the Uz, Luners, or even Malkioni.

  8. I think I've discovered a bug in the current version of KoDP:

    When you have no clan leader, even though there are two boxes to check (one to make them a ring member, one to make them leader), when you tap on either one, they're automatically made leader - you can't just add someone to the ring, and then choose your leader afterwards. It's like it forces you to choose a leader before you fill any other position on the ring.

  9. Yeah, you need to pick your chief first. You're filling the chief vacancy. Perhaps not the best interface, but nobody had a better one given the functionality and the space available.

    (BTW, sending mail to our bugz@ account is the best way to report bugs, to make sure they don't slip through the cracks.)

  11. No, Universal means the same iOS build runs on iPad-sized screens as well as iPhone size screens.
